Roles and Responsiblities of a Yearbook Staffer... or , " I have to do what? By when?"

As you are viewing this page, we already appreciate your interest in helping to plan and design this year's book. The WBMS Yearbook staff fills an important role of being the eyes and ears of the school, capturing some of the year's best memories for history. If you have any doubts, just ask some adults near you if they still have their yearbooks from elementary, middle, and high school!

Yes, you get a free yearbook out of it. Yes, you get out of class occasionally for special assignments.

BUT...
Before applying to serve on the yearbook staff, I would like you to consider both the roles and responsibilities of the position.

Yearbook staff members must:

- Demonstrate the ability to work independently on assigned pages (frequently at home). We simply do not have the time during the school day for this. Time at school will be spent sharing and critiquing pages, as well as planning. Heavily consider whether you have the time to commit to this.
-Demonstrate the ability to work with groups on assignments
-Assert independence and confidence in taking photographs (need to work to "get the best shot")
-Communicate effectively with adults and peers
-Demonstrate an effort to help with spontaneous tasks ("Grab a picture of..." or " Ask Mrs. Newcomb if...")
-Demonstrate the ability to accept constructive criticism ( student work is edited by adult and corrections always need to be made- we even edit ourselves!)
- Demonstrate a commitment to attend meetings, work at a steady pace, ask for help, and offer help as needed

Now that you are terrified- DON'T BE! Working on the yearbook is a fun, engaging experience. Even with the requirements above, those that commit to it agree that it's an exciting adventure! PLEASE see me with any questions or concerns. Parents are free to contact me as well.

Thanks!!
Mrs. Whitehead
